Jon In Jerusalem

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Other than that, we said goodbye to two important members of our team this week. First Michael, one of our business instructors left on Tuesday. He is giong to NY to work for Goldman Sachs, and is starting on this upcomingt, Monday. He is a really great guy, the students loved him, and he really knows his business stuff. The other person who left this week was Shalom, who got called up to serve from the reserves. That is crazy because he is going from watching over Isreali and Palestinian high school students and making sure that they all get along and entering the active army. But, he is a caring, level-headed guy, and that makes him someone that I would trust in an army. Here is a picture of a bunch of the students giving him a hug goodbye. Shalom is the guy in the middle making the crazy face.

Another note is that the checkpoints into Jerusalem from the West Bank are still closed. As such, if we want the students at the YMCA to be here for the last week of the program (next week), they will have to stay in Jerusalem again this weekend. We are considering sending them home, because it might be very depressing for them to spend three whole weeks without being able to go home. That would be pretty sad.

Otherwise , things are going well. The project is going well, the students seem happy and challenged. I enjoy working with them. This weekend we are going to take a trip to Tel Aviv.
